What if I told you there are several things you can do to get rid of and prevent Halitosis? Halitosis is a serious problem in which many Americans suffer. There are many remedies that can aid in the destruction of this disease which you should know about.
First of all, we should start at the root of the problem, with the foods you eat. There are foods that help prevent halitosis. Fresh and fibrous vegetables such as carrots produce far less decaying gas then other foods. There are some foods that actually can cause halitosis as well. Milk and meats are foods that can make halitosis more prevalent since they contain odor causing bacteria. Brushing your teeth or at least rinsing with water after eating these foods will help prevent the halitosis from occurring.
The area in our mouth that seems to get blamed for much of the halitosis brunt is our tongue. Bacteria likes to sit on the very back of our tongues and fester as it grows. Special tongue scrapers can be purchased through dental care professionals to rid of this halitosis causing bacteria. Once it is removed, proper daily tongue brushing is needed to prevent the bacteria from reforming. At first this can cause a gag reflex, but you will get used to it in time.
Another halitosis remedy is a mouthwash that has been recommended by dentists. Only mouthwashes clinically proven to fight halitosis are helpful. When used right before bed, this mouthwash is the most effective. Nighttime is when there is the least amount of saliva flow, and therefore, more bacteria growth.
Perhaps one of the quickest ways to remedy halitosis is by chewing sugar-free gum or gnawing on a sprig of mint or parsley. You may think these are recommended for the minty taste. That is actually not the case. The goal is to get more saliva flow. The more saliva flowing in your mouth, the less chance bacteria has to grow. This can also be accomplished by drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day. Water has so many positive effects on your body. Halitosis prevention is just one more to add to the list.
To prevent a potentially embarrassing bad breath situation, or to correct a growing health problem, halitosis prevention is in order. By following these simple instructions you will be on your way to a happy, halitosis-free life.
